Blog 2: The Importance of the Little Things

If you’re pregnant, have been pregnant, or know someone who is, you’ve probably come across all sorts of things - newborn and maternity photographers, baby casting kits, journals, milestone mats, keepsake boxes… the list goes on!

And naturally, the question always comes up: are they really worth the money?

Let’s dive in and chat about that.

Of course, many of these items are seen as luxuries and might not always feel accessible, but their purpose and intention go far beyond aesthetics. They capture a moment - a tiny, fleeting moment - that you’ll never get back.

When I was pregnant, I decided to do a maternity photoshoot, but I didn’t book a newborn one. Looking back now, I realise how quickly that newborn stage passed - and how much I wish I’d captured more of it while it was here. The sleepy yawns, the tiny fingers wrapped around mine, the little stretches - those moments fade faster than we think.

December 2023, I was 8 months pregnant and I love looking back to my pregnancy photoshoot to look back at how much my body changed.

I still treasure every phone picture and video I took, but professional photos do offer something special: they freeze those memories in the most beautiful light, preserving that chapter forever. It’s something I always encourage new parents to consider - because once those days are gone, you can never truly recreate them.

Pregnancy and early parenthood bring so many changes - your body, your priorities, your entire rhythm of life. Journals and baby books can become gentle companions through it all. Week by week and month by month, they guide you through the journey, offering space to reflect, release, and remember.

I did use a pregnancy journal, and I’m endlessly grateful I did. Pregnancy is such a whirlwind - full of highs, lows, tears, and joy. Years later, it’s easy to forget the little moments in between: not just the first kick or the first compliment on your bump, but the quiet evenings, the cravings, the worries, the laughter. These journals preserve your truth of the journey - a real, raw insight into one of life’s most transformative times.

So, circling back to the original question - are these sentimental keepsakes worth it? My answer: absolutely, yes.

The newborn stage truly goes by in the blink of an eye. Between the flurry of emotions - excitement, exhaustion, love, and overwhelm - these special pieces help freeze time, even just for a moment.

My advice to you, from one mother to another: take the photographs and videos - as many as possible. Capture every moment you can. Go out as much as possible. Bring the world to your baby - they see the world through you. Fill out the books and journals, even on the days that feel ordinary. You’ll be so grateful that you did when you look back years from now and see just how far you’ve both come.

And what a gift to give your little one one day - a journal filled with your words, your memories, your journey. A love story that began long before they could remember it.

At Cuddily Club, we’ve created our range of baby books and journals with this exact purpose in mind - to help you slow down, savour, and remember. Each page is a gentle space to capture milestones, emotions, and everyday moments that make your journey uniquely yours.

They’re more than just pages - they’re keepsakes designed to hold your memories close, to be passed down, and to remind you of all the little things that mattered most.
